The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has preventively suspended the driver’s license of the truck driver involved in a multiple-vehicle collision at the Skyway At-Grade Southbound in Barangay Sun Valley, Parañaque City, which left one person dead and at least five others injured. The incident occurred on Friday evening.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II said the driver’s license of the truck driver and the Suzuki UV Van Carrier with Plate No. JAO-6376 was already placed under alarm to prevent any transactions while under investigation.
Initial reports from the LTO revealed that the truck lost control of its brakes at approximately 7:45 PM, leading to a collision with several vehicles.
A Show Cause Order (SCO) has been issued to the truck driver and the registered owner, a resident of Davao del Norte, requiring their appearance at the LTO Central Office in Quezon City.
In the SCO signed by LTO Law Enforcement Service (LES) director Eduardo de Guzman, the truck’s registered owner has been instructed to submit a written and notarized explanation detailing why they should not be held administratively liable for the incident.
The truck driver was also directed to provide a written and notarized explanation addressing why they should not be charged with reckless driving and why their driver’s license should not be suspended or revoked on the grounds of being deemed an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
Additionally, the driver has been ordered to surrender their driver’s license immediately to the LTO.
“Failure to appear and submit the written comments/explanations as required shall be construed by this Office as a waiver of your rights to be heard, and the case shall be decided based on the evidence at hand,” the SCO read.
This development follows the LTO’s ongoing efforts to ensure road safety and accountability for vehicular accidents. Further updates on the investigation are expected in the coming days.
