The Department of Energy-Visayas (DoE-Visayas) has urged local government units (LGUs) in the region to develop plans and programs for sustainable energy, citing concerns about increasing power demand and potential shortages.
DoE-Visayas regional director Renante Sevilla highlighted the need for renewable energy sources, particularly solar power as he pointed to Cebu and Iloilo provinces as examples of LGUs that have started to adopt solar energy for various applications, including powering public hospitals and schools.
“While the current supply remains stable, we anticipate challenges in the future due to increasing power demand,” Sevilla said. “Transitioning to renewable energy is crucial to address these concerns.”
