Senatorial candidate Luis “Manong Chavit” Singson spent two hours engaging with senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs) and single parents on Wednesday at the Malolos Sports Convention Center in Malolos, Bulacan, where he outlined his key campaign platforms.
The event, hosted by the local non-governmental organization Solido Agila ng Bulacan, was a vibrant show of support for Singson, who was warmly welcomed by attendees.
City Councilor JV Vitug and Solido Agila founder Mauwi Casingsing voiced their strong backing for his candidacy, with Casingsing expressing, “We hope Manong Chavit will support us when he wins. And we won’t let him go until he does.”
Singson distributed rice to attendees, symbolizing his commitment to addressing the immediate needs of Bulakeños. However, it was his key platforms that took center stage.
Among these were his plans to modernize the country’s jeepneys, promote digital banking solutions, and introduce a Universal Basic Income (UBI) program — initiatives he believes are crucial to improving the lives of Filipinos nationwide.
The former Ilocos Sur governor said he supports the Jeep Modernization Program, which aims to replace aging jeepneys with safer, more efficient, and eco-friendly models. He explained that this initiative would improve public transport, create jobs in vehicle manufacturing, and support local industries.
He stressed the importance of providing financial aid, training, and subsidies to help jeepney drivers and operators transition smoothly.
Singson also advocated for the VBank Digital Bank Card, a financial product designed to increase financial inclusion, especially in rural areas with limited access to traditional banking.
The VBank card enables users to manage their finances through smartphones, allowing for digital payments, saving, and investing. This initiative empowers Filipinos, particularly those without access to physical bank branches.
If gets to the Senate, Singson said he will propose the Chavit500 Universal Basic Income program, which would provide all Filipino workers earning below minimum wage with a monthly allowance of P500 to help meet their basic needs.
This UBI aims to offer a safety net for vulnerable groups like the elderly, persons with disabilities, and single parents, helping reduce income inequality and providing financial stability for Filipinos facing economic hardships.
