DAVAO CITY — Around P800,000 worth of sacks of rice were donated by the City Government of Mati to the affected families of Tropical Storm Kabayan in Caraga, Davao Oriental.

Mati City Mayor Michelle Rabat said Wednesday during an interview that apart from the rice assistance, the city government also deployed personnel as well as heavy equipment to help for the clearing and rehabilitation of the municipality,

TS Kabayan made a landfall in Barangay Conception, Manay on 18 December and has left damage to various provinces in Davao Oriental.

It brought heavy rains which resulted in flooding and landslides, damaging various infrastructures in the province.

"We continue to coordinate with Caraga Mayor Ronie Sango Osnan about the situation. We are just waiting for the approval of the City Council for the donation of the city to the typhoon-affected families," she added.

Based on the record from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, around 1,500 families were affected by the tropical storm.

"Cooperation between local government units means a joint effort to provide support and unity to the victims of the disaster," Rabat added.
