A gathering of Filipino friends in Finland entertained netizens by celebrating Christmas with drinks in a backyard, enduring a temperature of negative five degrees.
In an interview with the DAILY TRIBUNE on Wednesday, Ranjo Inguillo, Owen Padernal and Carlos Padernal, who study and work in Finland, said their friends in the Philippines asked the trio to take photos of themselves drinking in their icy backyard, as a way to join Christmas celebrations in the Philippines.
"It was 24 of December when we were having our drinking session in our backyard. One of our friends in the Philippines asked us to take a photo in the snow because they were also taking photos while drinking. At first, we thought it would only be a photo, but then we opted to take a video as well. We posted it, and were surprised when it went viral," Ranjo said.
Ranjo added that he believed many Filipinos could relate to their content, since one of the common problems for Filipino drinkers is running out of ice.
"Many people can probably relate to that because in the Philippines, our main problem when we drink is that we run out of ice. Here in Finland, we got unlimited ice until the month of March," he stated.
The friends, who are studying professional waiter courses in Finland while working as crew members in a fast-food chain, said the cold climate in Finland is something they've adapted to, and they're not quite sure when they will be able to get back home in the Philippines with school and work foremost on their agenda. But if their viral drinking video is anything to go by, OFWs will always find a way to bring themselves back home, if only virtually.
