The Philippine National Police has placed under restrictive custody a police officer due to alleged indiscriminate firing during the Christmas holidays in Malabon City.
PNP Public Information Office chief and spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said that there were seven reported incidents of illegal discharge of firearms involving a civilian, two cops, two soldiers, and two unidentified persons. She added that five firearms were confiscated and one injured reported.
Fajardo said what happened to the policeman in Malabon was an accidental firing, but as part of the protocol, he was still placed in restrictive custody and was also disarmed
Fajardo also said that appropriate charges will be filed against those individuals who violated the law against indiscriminate firing.
"We have been constantly reminding our gun owners/holders to be responsible at all times in using their firearms so as not to harm innocent people, that these should not be used as a device for making noise in welcoming New Year," she stressed.
Fajardo added that the PNP arrested eight violators due to illegal possession/use/sale of banned firecrackers, and confiscated illegal firecrackers worth P190,390.
