The Department of Public Works and Highways has completed a bridge, making travel safer and faster for the residents of Barangay Burol, General Mamerto Natividad, in Nueva Ecija.
According to Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineer Elpidio Trinidad, the two-lane bridge spans 25 meters and has railings and solar-powered street lights to provide additional safety during low visibility.
He said that the project's completion benefits the farming communities of their province, specifically by bridging two communities separated by an irrigation system. It also makes their trading and other services more convenient.
"The completed bridge now connects two communities separated by an irrigation system allowing safer and shorter travel time of residents especially farmers to the town proper and nearby markets," Trinidad said.
"The bridge significantly enhances the convenience of transportation, agricultural trading, education, and healthcare services in the community," he added.
Before the infrastructure's completion, it was said that residents of the said barangay frequently took detours to get to their destinations due to a lack of access and a reliable bridge.
The project was built with P7.7 million, funded under the Basic Infrastructure Program of the 2023 General Appropriations Act, according to the agency's press release on 22 December 2023.
