Create more, higher quality jobs, PBBM told employers

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier this week called on employers to create more, higher-quality jobs in the country to attain a "New Philippines."

In a speech delivered by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin at the Department of Labor and Employment's 90th Anniversary Stakeholders' Night: Gabi ng Parangal at Pasasalamat, Marcos called for the full support of employers and workers for the full recovery of the labor market amid economic challenges.

"As we pursue a progressive and inclusive Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines), I thus call on everyone – employers, workers, government, and stakeholders alike – to remain united in ensuring the full recovery of the labor market," Marcos said.

"So, let us continue to work together to produce not only more jobs but also quality and meaningful employment that will uplift the lives and dignity of every Filipino worker," Marcos added.

Meanwhile, Marcos praised the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for marking its 90th anniversary in advancing job opportunities and safeguarding the rights and well-being of workers.

The President also acknowledged the recipients of awards and government collaborators while emphasizing labor protection and industrial harmony as key priorities of his administration.

He urged the awardees to persist in their causes, encouraging them to motivate others to work towards creating a "strong and adaptable workforce."

"Rest assured that promoting labor protection and industrial peace remain among the top priorities of this administration, as they are the keys to developing the full potential of our workers and harnessing their productivity towards nation-building," Marcos said.

The event formed a part of the weeklong festivities marking the 90th founding anniversary of the DOLE.

Under the theme "Serbisyong Mabilis at Matapat sa Bagong Pilipinas," this year's anniversary celebration included nationwide job fairs, disbursements to beneficiaries through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Program, and the Kadiwa ng Pangulo para sa mga Manggagawa initiative.

Initially established as a bureau in 1908 within the Department of Commerce and Police, the DOLE attained department status through Act 4121 on December 8, 1933.
