The Bureau of Customs – Port of NAIA (BOC-NAIA) intercepted on Tuesday a parcel from Africa containing P67.3 million worth of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, also known as shabu, at a cargo warehouse in the NAIA Complex.

In the initial report, the BOC-NAIA said that after the subject parcel went through the x-ray machine for examination, duty customs examiner Garry Burgos noticed a suspicious image of the illegal substances, and the said parcel was also turned positive for the narcotic K-9 unit inspection. He promptly coordinated it with the NAIA PDEA-IADITG.

The port added that during a physical examination of the parcel, the authorities discovered a white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu with a total weight of 9,898 grams. It was concealed inside the aluminum pulley case and declared as spare parts. It was shipped from Mozambique, Africa, and transported via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia before it arrived in the country.

On the same date, the authorities also arrested the claimant, a 40-year-old female beautician and a resident of San Andres Ext., Sta. Ana Manila, after she tried to claim the parcel.

BOC-NAIA stated that the consignee's name on the package matched the claimant's name.

The arrested claimant and the intercepted illegal drugs were turned over to the custody of the NAIA PDEA-IADITG for further investigation and proper disposition.
