The Bureau of Immigration announced on Thursday afternoon the apprehension of an 80-year-old Australian man who is facing sexual assault charges in his country.
In a report given to BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco, the BI Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU) identified the Australian as David John Buckley, who is now detained at the BI Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, pending his deportation.
Tansingco said that Buckley was arrested on 21 November on Bantayan Island in Cebu. He will be deported as soon as the BI Board of Commissioners issues the order for his summary deportation, said Tansingco.
The BI chief added that his presence is not welcome in the country, and he will be placed on the BI's blacklist, banning him from re-entering the country.
Official documents state that the federal police in Queensland, Australia, have two arrest warrants out for renowned pedophile Buckley on grounds of rape and indecent treatment of minors.
The charges reportedly stemmed from a 2021 complaint filed against Buckley in Papua New Guinea for sexual abuse he committed against the victims in the early 1990s.
Moreover, Buckley is known to have committed multiple sex-related offenses in various places in Queensland, aside from 26 child and sexual abuse offenses from 1988 to 2004. He was also found to be undocumented, as his passport had already expired.
Meanwhile, the bureau also reported that the immigration officials at Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) barred a Cameroonian national from entering the country after he pretended to be a French national by presenting a stolen French passport.
The BI Border Control and Enforcement Unit (BI-BCIU) identified the passenger as 31-year-old Valentine Forkwa Mbanwei, who arrived at the MCIA on 20 November via a Singapore Airlines flight from Singapore. The intercepted African initially presented a French passport under a different name.
However, his ruse did not work out, as it registered an Interpol hit indicating that the French passport was reported stolen and lost by the owner.
The passenger later admitted his true identity and presented his Cameroon passport.
Mbanwei was immediately excluded, and he booked the next available flight back to his port of origin for misrepresentation, for not possessing an entry visa, and for being likely to become a public charge.
He will be permanently prohibited from entering the country due to the fraud, and his name will be added to the BI's blacklist.
