Bong Go leads handover of motorboat engines to Mati fisherfolks

Senator Christopher "Bong" Go has once again affirmed his commitment to the agricultural sector as he personally witnessed the handover of the 10 motorboat engines to fisherfolks in Mati City, Davao Oriental on Saturday, 18 November.
The turnover ceremony, which was also attended by Congressman Cheeno Almario, Governor Niño Sotero Uy, Mayor Michelle Rabat, and Vice Mayor Lorenzo Rabat, among others, marked a crucial step towards both economic recovery and the revitalization of the local fishing industry, which has been significantly affected by the adverse effects of the pandemic.
It also highlighted Go's commitment, as vice chairperson of the Senate Committee on Finance, to address the challenges faced by the people during these trying times.
"The provision of motor banca engines is a strategic move aimed at empowering local fisherfolks, boosting their productivity, and ultimately contributing to the economic resurgence of the region," said Go.
"Nagpapasalamat tayo sa Manila Metro Premier PH Eagles Club sa donasyon na ito para maiangat ang kabuhayan ng ating maliliit na mangingisda," he added.
Go, known for his advocacy for public service and community development, emphasized the importance of supporting the backbone of our economy, which includes the hardworking fisherfolks who have been facing unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The senator reiterated that investing in the fishing industry is not only an investment in the livelihoods of the fisherfolks but also a significant contribution to the overall economic recovery of the city, saying, "By empowering fisherfolks and investing in essential sectors, such as the fishing industry, we take meaningful strides towards a more resilient and prosperous future for all."
Referring to a recent study conducted by Pulse Asia Research Inc., Go emphasized the immediate concerns expressed by the public regarding inflation and the imperative need to increase workers' wages. Drawing a connection to the local scenario, he underscored the crucial role played by the fishing sector in Mati City, accentuating its significance in terms of employment, livelihoods, and overall economic advancement.
The survey showed that 74 percent of surveyed individuals voiced concerns about the impact of inflation. The second most prominent concern, indicated by 49 percent of participants, revolved around the urgency of increasing workers' wages. Following closely, the creation of more job opportunities held the third spot with 27 percent.
