Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, in partnership with local government units and private organizations, distributed school supplies to 100 students in the districts of Sampaloc and Tondo on Monday to mark the start of the new school year.
The distribution activities took place at the Barangay 940 Covered Court in Sampaloc and the Barangay 56 Covered Court in Tondo. The learners received school bags equipped with notebooks, pencils, pens, erasers and paper.
In a message to the students, Go stressed that academic preparation involves holistic well-being.
“It’s not just notebooks and uniforms that should be prepared,” Go said. “More importantly, our minds and bodies must also be ready for a new school year. Education is the key to building a better future for our country, and our youth are the foundation of that future.”
The outreach program was supported by local governments and the Junior Chamber International, a global nonprofit organization for young leaders and professionals.
Go, who chairs the Senate Committee on Youth, reiterated his support for accessible, inclusive and quality education.
He highlighted several legislative measures he co-authored and co-sponsored, including Republic Act 12077, which provides a student loan payment moratorium during disasters; and RA 11510, institutionalizing the Alternative Learning System.
Also included are RA 11984, the No Permit, No Exam Prohibition Act; and RA 11997, which increases the annual teaching allowance for public school teachers.
