The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and the Philippine National Police have expressed readiness for the three-day transport strike starting today in Metro Manila, saying they would offer free rides to affected commuters.

"Rest assured that we are fully prepared to offer free rides to the public. We plan to deploy approximately 250 vehicles across NCR (National Capital Region), ensuring the convenience of up to 10,000 passengers per trip," LTFRB spokesperson Pialago said.

She added that the LTFRB is always open to dialogue with transport groups, including PISTON, spearheading the strike to oppose the government's Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program.

The LTFRB has said that 60 percent of transport organizations nationwide have expressed their support for the modernization program intended to replace dilapidated, smoke-belching PUVs with more modern, eco-friendly vehicles.

"Our commitment to providing efficient and modern public transportation remains unwavering," Pialago said.
