Senator Bong Go provided assistance to families affected by a fire incident in Davao City held at the Barangay 22-C gymnasium on Tuesday, 17 October.
The 43 households received vitamins, snacks, shirts, and balls for basketball and volleyball. There were also recipients of shoes.
Meanwhile, the beneficiaries also received livelihood support from the Department of Trade and Industry after qualifying in its Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa program which Go advocated for and continues to support.
"Sa programang ito, tuturuan ang mga benepisyaryo na magnegosyo at bibigyan ng tulong at kagamitan para palaguin ito. Masarap sa pakiramdam kapag pinaghirapan at pinagpawisan mo ang iyong negosyo at napalago mo ito. Ang maayos na kabuhayan ang isa sa mga magiging susi sa pagginhawa ng pamumuhay ng iyong pamilya," Go said.
In his message, Go stressed the need for the government to provide more livelihood opportunities to Filipinos amid challenging times, especially in communities affected by crises such as fires and calamities.
The senator also highlighted Republic Act No. 11960, also known as the One Town, One Product Philippines Act. As one of its authors and co-sponsors, the OTOP Philippines Program is a government-driven venture that empowers every town or city across the nation to leverage a distinctive product or service that reflects its identity, culture, and heritage.
Meanwhile, Go reiterated the need to push for the passage of Senate Bill No. (SBN) 188, which he filed to establish the Department of Disaster Resilience (DDR). The proposed measure aims to create a new Cabinet-level department that would focus on holistic approaches to enhance disaster preparedness.
Go added that the DDR shall concentrate on three significant areas such as disaster risk reduction, disaster preparedness and response, and recovery and building forward better.
"Isa pong departamento ito na kung saka-sakali ay to be headed by a Cabinet secretary rank para maayos na koordinasyon. 'Yung secretary level kasi may authority kaya madali niyang ipatawag po 'yung kanyang kasamahang secretary level," explained Go.
Recognizing the urgent need for accessible health services, especially during challenging times, Go encouraged the public to utilize the Malasakit Center located at the Southern Philippines Medical Center in the city if they need medical assistance.
To strengthen health infrastructure at the grassroots, Go supports the construction of more Super Health Centers nationwide.
To help improve the quality of public service delivered to his fellow Davaoeños, Go, vice chairperson of the Senate Committee on Finance, likewise supported the construction of various multipurpose buildings and local roads, rehabilitation of water systems, drainage systems, and flood control structures in different barangays throughout the city, the construction of a 300-bed capacity infectious diseases building for SPMC and the acquisition of ambulances.
