Senator Christopher "Bong" Go was declared an adopted son of the Province of Sultan Kudarat on Monday, October 9. The ceremony took place during his visit to the province and was facilitated by Governor Datu Pax Ali S. Mangudadatu and Esperanza Mayor Charles Federic Ploteña.
The declaration was made possible through Resolution No. 222, which was unanimously approved during the regular session of the 16th Sangguniang Panlalawigan on March 23, 2023.
The province expressed its gratitude and acknowledged Go's comprehensive efforts across multiple sectors, including health, agriculture, food security, fire prevention and protection, sports, senior citizens, and youth development. The resolution stated that the province is honored to have a staunch partner like Go, whose efforts deserve acknowledgment from the people of Sultan Kudarat.
"Ang ating pasasalamat, pagmamahal, at suporta ay 100% para kay Senator Bong Go," said Gov. Mangudadatu. The governor described Go as not just a senator but a friend who has been fully supportive of the developmental projects and welfare programs in Sultan Kudarat.
Mayor Ploteña also spoke highly of Go's contributions to the local community. He expressed his gratitude for the Super Health Center project in Esperanza, describing it as essential for the growing population of the area.
Go was instrumental in pushing for adequate funding to ensure that more Super Health Centers are established across the country. In 2022 alone, 307 Super Health Centers were funded through Go's initiative, in collaboration with DOH and fellow lawmakers. An additional 322 more Super Health Centers are planned for 2023.
In Sultan Kudarat, Go advocated for the funding for the establishment of two Super Health Centers in the city of Tacurong. He further supported the establishment of a Super Health Center in each of the towns of Bagumbayan, Columbio, Esperanza, Isulan, and Palimbang.
Super Health Centers are designed to focus on primary care, consultation, and early detection of diseases, further strengthening the healthcare sector in the country especially in rural communities. It will also help decongest hospitals, according to Go who continues to advocate for its establishment in strategic areas across the country in coordination with the DOH.
Moreover, the resolution specifically highlighted Go's role in the establishment and continuing operations of Malasakit Centers nationwide. In Sultan Kudarat, there is a Malasakit Center located at the Sultan Kudarat Provincial Hospital in Isulan.
Go is the principal author and sponsor of Republic Act No. 11463 or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which institutionalized the Malasakit Centers program. The centers serve as a one-stop-shop consolidating medical assistance programs from various government agencies for indigent patients.
Since the first Malasakit Center was established in 2018, there are now 159 centers that have assisted more than seven million Filipinos nationwide, according to DOH.
Go, vice chairperson of the Senate Committee on Finance, has also been instrumental in advocating for a wide range of projects across various municipalities in the province.
These projects include the concreting of roads in Esperanza, Bagumbayan, Isulan, Lambayong, Lebak, Lutayan, and Tacurong City. Additionally, he supported the construction of multipurpose buildings in Columbio and Isulan, as well as the procurement of ambulance units for other towns.
On the same day, Go conducted on-site inspections of several projects he supported, including the road concreting initiative in Esperanza, which extends from the junction of National Highway-Barangay Saliao to Purok Masagana Farm-to-Market Road. He also attended the groundbreaking of the Super Health Center in Esperanza.
