The Paing Hechanova Youth Leadership Awards Executive Committee is happy to announce some important updates that will expand the reach and impact of this prestigious recognition program.

Extension of Nominations to Rotaract Clubs

In recognition of the invaluable contributions of Rotaract Clubs in nurturing youth leadership, PHYLA is excited to announce the extension of eligibility for nominations to Rotaract Clubs. This strategic decision is aimed at harnessing the Clubs' extensive networks and encouraging them to support deserving youth leaders exemplifying the spirit of PHYLA.

Nomination deadline extension

To provide more time for Rotary and Rotaract Clubs to assiduously identify and nominate outstanding youth leaders, PHYLA has extended the nomination deadline to 30 December 2023.

This extension allows for a more thorough search and the opportunity to spotlight young individuals embodying the values of leadership, service and dedication that PHYLA represents.

The Paing Hechanova Youth Leadership Awards aim to honor youth leaders demonstrating extraordinary leadership skills in various Areas of Focus of Rotary International, as well as in Sports Development.

About the award

The award is designed to honor the memory and legacy of Past Rotary International Director Rafael "Paing" Hechanova, a distinguished member of RC Makati. PRID Paing served as club president, district governor, and director of Rotary International during his illustrious Rotary career. He was also a renowned sportsman who represented the Philippines in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics and was inducted into the Philippine National Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000.

Cash prizes and recognition

The PHYLA Grand Winner will receive a cash prize of P350,000, while the first and second runners-up will be awarded P250,000 and P150,000, respectively. The nominating clubs of these exceptional young leaders will receive P50,000 each. In addition, the other top seven finalists will each receive P50,000, with their top three nominating clubs receiving P50,000 each, and the remaining seven clubs receiving P25,000 each.
