Acclaimed Filipino West End star Joanna Ampil is nominated for Best Performance in a Musical at the 2023 UK Theatre Awards, for her role as the first female The Engineer in "Miss Saigon", the brand-new production of the musical mounted by Sheffield Theatres in the United Kingdom.
"Thank you #UKTAwards @uk_theatre. Honoured to be nominated alongside these amazing women. And our reimagined show is nominated too! Thank you for the recognition," Ampil wrote on Facebook in reaction to the news.
Ampil will go against Lena Hall ("In My Dreams," Leeds Playhouse Production) and Rebecca Thornhill ("Gypsy," The Mill at Sonning Production).
The reimagined "Miss Saigon" is also nominated for Best Musical Production alongside Octagon Theatre, Bolton's "The Book Thief" and The Mill at Sonning Production's "Gypsy."
The UK Theatre Awards 2023 will take place at London's historic Guildhall on 8 October, hosted by musical theater star Zoe Birkett.

Ampil won Best Actress in the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival for "Ang Larawan." Her portrayal of Candida Marasigan also earned her the New Movie Actress of the Year title at the 2018 Star Awards, Best Actress at the 2018 Gawad Urian and Best Actress at the 2018 FAP Awards.
