Counterfeit tools worth P5 million were confiscated by Northern Police District operatives from a Chinese national in Navotas City Monday.
NPD chief P/Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones Jr. said the operation to seize the tools stemmed from information received last 28 September of their sale by a business entity.
After a series of surveillance operations during which the firm was found to be selling the counterfeit tools, the policemen applied for and was granted a search warrant by Branch 90 of the Regional Trial Court of Quezon City.
Credibility Logistics Co., Ltd, the firm that was raided by the NPD District Special Operations Unit headed by P/Col. Erosito Miranda was said to be owned by one Hong Xiao Bao, alias Ben Ong.
A complaint for violating Sec. 168 (unfair competition) of Republic Act 8293 would be filed against the company and its owners and officers for counterfeiting the labels and prints of Makita products.
Among those seized were 700 impact drill; 300 welding machines and 24 pieces of impact hammer drill with an estimated total market value of P5,537,000.
Meanwhile, other products believed to be also counterfeited, were also discovered with an approximate market value of more or less P200,000,000.
Judge Maria Zoraida S. Zabag Tuazon, presiding judge of RTC Branch 90, Quezon City, issued the search warrant.
Verifications made by DSOU before the Business Permit and Licensing Office of Navotas and the Securities and Exchange Commission said Credibility Co.Ltd., was not registered with them.
