Case for Capiz

Handmade items always bring about added joy as Christmas decor. Zyrrah's Arts and Crafts owners by Soriano has been creating exquisite decor for many decades now using local capiz as main material for her holiday accessories, tableware, lighting fixtures, pots, among others.

Soriano is a participant of Tindahan ni Tarsee, which was launched as a physical bazaar on November 25 to 27 and is now an online store as a microsite on Daily Tribune. Discover how her business began and her lovely offers this holiday season.

Daily Tribune (DT): What's the story behind your business?
Joy Soriano: I've been in this business for the last 46 years with different companies in this business. I love the business.

DT: Are all your products made by you?
JS: Yeah.

DT: All are handmade?
JS: Yes.

DT: Are your raw materials imported or exported?
JS: It's locally sourced and we export our products.

DT: Where are you based or where is your physical store located?
JS: In Sumulong, Antipolo.

DT: Since when is that store?
JS: Since 1976.

DT: Let's go to your products profile. What do you usually sell?
JS: Well, mostly are Christmas decors, housewares, vases, pots, displays, gifts.

DT: What raw material do you usually use in your products?
JS: Capiz, mostly are made of Capiz. We combine it with other materials like rattan and wheat.

DT: Ma'am, the plates like your display (in the bazaar) is it for display only or also for dining?
JS: These are food-safe products. We can use it for eating purposes.

DT: What are your latest products this 2022?
JS: A lot. Because we renew and update our designs every now and then.

DT: Ma'am, are you the ones designing your products?
JS: I'm the one who designs them.

DT: Is that your work ever since?
JS: No. It started with bags and shoes. But this is our longest, specialized business that is existing.

DT: What are your products this Christmas?
JS: We have a lot but they are not on display here (bazaar). Orders are overflowing. We are a supplier, not a retailer.

DT: What can we expect po from your products this Christmas?
JS: We have a lot but like what I said earlier, unfortunately, they are not on display here (bazaar).

DT: What products can we expect from your business after Christmas?
JS: Housewares and gifts

DT: What are your best-selling products?
JS: Housewares and gifts all year-round.

DT: People can only buy wholesale from you. When people order, how many pieces can they order?
JS: At least, minimum depending on the items. Small ones, it can be hundred pieces. Big ones, at least 12 pieces.
