Metro Retail eyes three-story Metro Ormoc

Metro Retail Stores Group Inc. (MRSGI) has partnered with the Ormoc City government for the development of Metro Ormoc, a planned three-story retail complex at the corner of Real, Lopez Jaena and Rizal streets.

Site handover and groundbreaking are targeted for late 2026, with full construction expected to begin in early 2027.

The development will house a Metro Supermarket and Metro Department Store, along with food, service and retail tenants and dedicated parking facilities.

MRSGI president and COO Joselito Orense said Ormoc’s role as a major commercial center in Eastern Visayas made it a strategic location for the company’s expansion.

“With Metro Ormoc, we are bringing together our retail formats in a development that responds to local consumer needs while creating opportunities for local businesses, suppliers, and workers to participate,” Orense said.

MRSGI said the project is expected to generate employment during construction and later in retail operations, facilities management and logistics.

The company also plans to allocate commercial space for local vendors and micro, small and medium enterprises, while featuring Ormoc agricultural products, delicacies and artisanal goods.

“When we do business in a new site, we want it to be a partnership with the communities we work with,” MRSGI chairperson Sherisa Nuesa said.

The proposed building will also include rooftop solar infrastructure as part of the company’s energy-efficiency efforts.

MRSGI currently operates 84 branches across Luzon and the Visayas under Metro Supermarket, Metro Department Store, Super Metro Hypermarket, Metro Value Mart and Metro Home Improvement and Lifestyle.
