US Vice President Kamala Harris is set to visit the Philippines next month, a White House official announced on Saturday.
In a statement, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced that Harris will be visiting the country after participating in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand from 18 to 19 November.
"Her visit will re-affirm and strengthen the US-Philippines Alliance and underscore the breadth of our cooperation as friends, partners, and allies," the statement read.
Jean-Pierre added that Harris will meet with government leaders and civil society representatives and will be accompanied by Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff, who led the seven-member US delegation to President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s inauguration on 30 June.
No further details of her trip have been announced and Malacañang has yet to release a statement acknowledging the trip.
Economic cooperation underscored
In the APEC meeting, Jean-Pierre said Harris will "underscore the US commitment to economic cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region and she will outline US goals for our APEC host year in 2023."
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden is expected to visit Egypt, Cambodia, and Indonesia to attend several conferences.
Biden will be in Egypt on 11 November for the 27th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, then in Cambodia for the US-ASEAN Summit and the East Asia Summit in Cambodia on 12 to 13 November.
Finally, he will be in Indonesia for the G20 Leaders' Summit from 13 to 16 November.
Marcos and Biden met for the first time in New York City last month on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
