Ionica weaves brides’ dreams
Growing up, shopping for clothes was not a joy for Ionica Abrahan due to her nonstandard proportions. "It was difficult to find pieces that would fit right. It dawned on me that I needed to learn how to create the clothes I wanted," said Ionica. And thus began her personal path to the field of fashion. "Custom garments, when done right, always flatter," was her mantra.
The youngest of four siblings originally from Batangas, Abrahan attended summer art classes. This, she believes, sparked her love for the arts. A true green-blooded Lasallian since grade school, she earned her Fashion Design and Merchandising Bachelor's degree followed by an International Business Master's program both from the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde, where she's currently a professor.
To further hone her talents, she took a course on draping at Central Saint Martins in London.
With her hard-earned experiences and her valuable exposure, she launched Tunica Bridal Robes — classic, feminine, no-fuss designs to stand the test of time. "I want my clients to be able to wear them season after season, year after year," she said.
Her soft and delicate ensembles are sought-after by many brides-to-be, to include the first Filipino Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz. That's right, Ionica delivered the magical bridal robes of the four-time Olympian's entourage during her wedding, which complemented hers by Francis Libiran.
A disciple of neutral colors for their evergreen approach, she believes these shades bring out the beauty of any lady during a life-changing milestone. With the preference of satin and crepe for draping, Ionica has a love affair with her trusty and dependable sewing machine — a gift from family and friends — the constant companion she has had since her college days.
