Erik Matti's On the Job: The Missing 8, which won for John Arcilla the Volpi Cup Award for Best Actor at the 79th Venice International Film Festival, has been selected as the Philippine entry for Best International Feature at the 95th Academy Awards, the Film Development Council of the Philippines announced on 30 September.
The Missing 8, the sequel to Matti's original 2016 movie On the Job, is about a corrupt journalist seeking justice for his murdered colleagues.
It was the only Southeast Asian movie to compete in Venice.
On the Job: The Missing 8, currently streaming on HBO Go as a six-part miniseries along with its predecessor, had also been nominated for Best TV Movie/Mini-Series at the 50th International Emmy Awards.
