PALAYAN CITY, Nueva Ecija — Following the onslaught of super typhoon "Karding" in most parts of Luzon, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan here has declared the province under "state of calamity" during a board meeting.
Resolution482, Series of 2022 stated that the declaration of State of Calamity to the province of Nueva Ecija is due to the damages and destruction brought by "Karding" after the province experienced Signal No. 5 with red rainfall alert.
The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist stated that huge damages on the crops and livelihoods were incurred while the Provincial Engineering Office also reported infrastructure damages in the province, and the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office reporting numerous families evacuating their homes during the onslaught of the typhoon.
The declaration of state of calamity is also due to the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction Office headed by Governor Aurelio Umali. The official stated that there is a need to utilize the calamity fund of the provincial government.
Umali stressed that the calamity funds of the local government units be used to expedite the help and assistance to their constituents.
Meanwhile, the Pantabangan Dam has not yet released water due to the low water elevation.
According to Engr. Rosalinda Bote, Department Manager of the National Irrigation Administration -Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation System, almost one meter of water was only added to the dam after "Karding" ravaged the province.
Currently, the water elevation of the Pantabangan Dam is around 193.66 meters above sea level until noon of Monday.
She added that this is certainly lower by 27.34 meters to the dam's spilling level of 221 meters.
