Police have arrested and will file frustrated homicide and abandonment charges against a 42-year-old man tagged in a hit-and-run incident Saturday in Barangay BF Homes, Parañaque that has gone viral.
Southern Police District chief P/Brig. Gen. Kirby John Kraft identified Raymond Zaparain as the suspect in the running over of 63-year-old street sweeper Doreen Bacus.
Bacus was seen in closed-circuit TV footage sweeping when a Mitsubishi Pajero sports utility vehicle rammed her and run her over with the front right and rear right wheels.
An eyewitness who claimed to have participated in apprehending the suspect in one of the subdivision's gates said Zaparain claimed he did not know he hit a human.
The footage showed Zaparain's SUV veering off the road toward the sidewalk at around 7:30 a.m. at the corner of Aguirre and Elizalde Avenues. He sped off.
Concerned citizens rushed Bacus to the Ospital ng Parañaque but she was later transferred to the Philippine General Hospital after sustaining life-threatening injuries, including a cracked skull, according to some reports.
Zaparain's case brings back a similar hit-and-run incident whereby one Jose Antonio Sanvicente hit security guard Christian Floralde in Mandaluyong City last 5 June.
