The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) stresses the country's need to address the drug problem in the country on the current administration.

According to CHR Executive Director, Atty. Jacqueline Ann de Guia, she recall of what President Ferdinand Bong-Bong Marcos Jr. said in the campaign and even when he won, where he affirmed that he will continue the campaign against illegal drugs in his own brand.

These includes on focusing on prevention, education on the adverse effects of drugs, treatment, and being within the framework of the law and respecting human rights.

According to De Guia, the CHR continues to hold on these promises so that the government can gradually work on improving the human rights situation in the country.

"At the same time, we continue to advocate for the implementation of voluntary community-based drug treatment and harm reduction interventions as an alternative to compulsory detention where people are detained for the sake of claimed drug treatments," De Guia said.

The CHR also emphasizes the need to address the drug problem as more than just a criminality issue, but as a health and social issue that requires a human rights-based approach.
