Alongside dignitaries of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, inaugurated on Monday a Historical Mural Marker artfully painted along the entry-wall of Santiago Syjuco Memorial Integrated Secondary School (SSMISS).

According to NCCA's Administrative and Finance Division Chief Susan C. Dayao, the artwork is a collaboration between the city government and the city's schools division office who appealed for support under NCCA's "Arts in Public Spaces Program," to showcase the talent of its visual artist students.

The inauguration started with the recognition of various artists commissioned by the NCCA to conceptualize and paint the art wall.

Former congressman Ricky Sandoval who also graced the event took pride in being a co-proponent of the project.

In his address, the former representative reiterated to the commission that indeed "Malabon is a host to a lot of artists that also include singers and musicians alike who may likewise need the support NCCA".

SSMISS OIC Principal Leah C. Vidal expressed gratitude that their school became one of the recipient and gave her assurance that the community will "cherish and take care of this historical marker".

The mayor on the other hand, expressed her pride on how culture and arts continue to thrive in Malabon amidst the technological advancements.

"Art is an expression of how we experience the valuable traditions that our Malabon community lives by. The mural depicts our citys contribution to the history during our struggle for independence, and the lessons we should always remember," the mayor said.
