President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has appointed Noli Eala as chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz Angeles confirmed to reporters on Tuesday.

"We confirm the appointment of Mr. Noli Eala as chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission," Angeles said.

Eala is the 11th chairman of the government's  sports arm. His appointment paper was already signed on Tuesday and will be transmitted to the PSC on Wednesday.

Executive Secretary Atty. Vic Rodriguez signed his appointment.

Eala will be bringing his wealth of experience into the agency that is coming off its highest moment after helping Hidilyn Diaz win the country's first Olympic gold medal last year.

He will replace William "Butch" Ramirez.

Eala is a former sportscaster and commissioner of the Philippine Basketball Association before becoming the founding executive director of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.

He served as sports director of San Miguel Corporation and got involved in several ventures like the National Collegiate Athletic Association-South and professional boxing promotions.

Eala is the second member of the PSC board of commissioners to be appointed.

Also appointed was bowling legend Olivia "Bong" Coo, who was named as commissioner last month.

Eala is a law graduate of the Ateneo de Manila University.
