Palace calls for Bangsamoro peace dividend

Malacañang on Saturday urged the newly convened Bangsamoro Parliament to turn the gains of the peace process into better public services, livelihood opportunities and inclusive growth as the region begins a new chapter in self-governance.
Executive Secretary Ralph Recto welcomed the inaugural session of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliament on Friday, describing it as a milestone in the Bangsamoro people’s pursuit of lasting peace and democracy.
“This occasion marks a defining moment in the Bangsamoro people’s long march toward lasting peace and genuine self-governance,” Recto said.
“Let this be a parliament for peace, progress and prosperity,” he added.
Recto acknowledged that the establishment of the elected Parliament was preceded by years of negotiations, setbacks and difficult compromises, but said the determination of the Bangsamoro people and the national government’s commitment to the peace process remained firm.
With the Parliament now convened, Recto expressed hope that it would sustain the momentum of the peace process and ensure that its gains translate into tangible improvements in the lives of Bangsamoro residents.
“The task now is to ensure that the fruits of democracy are shared by all — through better public services, decent livelihoods and greater opportunities for every Bangsamoro family,” he said.
He also reaffirmed the Marcos administration’s commitment to supporting BARMM in consolidating the gains of peace and addressing the longstanding grievances that have fueled conflict in the region.
