Forty-nine overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Saudi Arabia returned to the Philippines on Friday through voluntary repatriation amid tensions in the Middle East, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.

They arrived aboard a Gulf Air flight at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay City, where DMW and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration administrator (OWWA) Patricia Yvonne Caunan welcomed them.

The DMW and OWWA prepared financial assistance, psychosocial counseling and transportation assistance to help the returnees reach their respective provinces. Reintegration and livelihood programs are also available to those seeking employment or planning to start businesses in the Philippines.

The Manila International Airport Authority medical team was on standby to provide free health checkups.

The repatriation involved the DMW, OWWA, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Philippine Embassy in Saudi Arabia and Migrant Workers Office in Riyadh.

With the latest arrivals, the number of OFWs repatriated from Saudi Arabia has reached 248.
