BDO Unibank is offering customers a way to open a basic bank account using a smartphone and a valid identification document through its BDO Pay app.

The bank said applicants can open a BDO Basic Account digitally using a driver’s license or passport, without an initial deposit or maintaining balance.

The application process requires users to download the BDO Pay app, select “Open a Basic Account,” scan their identification document, take a selfie, enter their details and submit the application for approval.

Once approved, account holders can use BDO Pay to make QR Ph payments, transfer money to other banks and e-wallets for free, and pay bills to more than 2,200 billers without fees. Users can also request money, split bills and access deals and rewards through the app.

Customers may request a physical card for free withdrawals at BDO automated teller machines. The bank also cited access to more than 5,000 ATMs and cash deposit machines nationwide.

Meanwhile, BDO Pay is offering referral incentives from 1 October 2026 to 31 January 2027. Existing users can receive P100 in cash credits for each successful referral, while referred users receive P50 in credits upon signing up with a referral code. Users may earn up to P1,000 in incentives during the promotional period.
