Three-time world champion Carlos Yulo is preparing a more difficult routine for the vault final of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands on Sunday, hoping to bounce back from a frustrating qualifying performance.

Yulo said he was disappointed with the outcome despite believing he delivered one of his best vault performances in qualifying, having worked hard to make adjustments to improve his chances of reaching the final.

“Yes, it was a bit disappointing because I’ve been working really hard on it. I tried to adjust everything, and I think this was my best qualification on vault so far,” said Yulo, who finished sixth in the qualification round with 14.266 points.

“Last time, I wasn’t sure if I could make it to the finals or even land the vault. This time, I had the opportunity to adjust, and I did.”

Yulo plans to raise the difficulty of his second vault to 6.0 in the final as he seeks to defend his title against a strong field.

“For my second event, vault, I’ll do a 6.0 difficulty. For now, I’m just feeling the atmosphere of the competition, getting a feel for the floor and managing my nerves. I think I’m good to go for the finals,” Yulo said.

“I’m going to give everything.”

The Filipino gymnast admitted he was puzzled by the result but acknowledged the need to keep improving his routines and execution.
