Yulo determined to shine in Rotterdam
Carlos Yulo is setting his sights on the individual all-around title as he competes in the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands from 17 to 25 October.
The 26-year-old Olympic champion also hopes to contend for titles across all six apparatuses after winning the gold in floor exercise and vault in the 20th Asian Games in Japan last September.
Yulo is currently training in Antibes, France, with younger brother Karl Eldrew and national team coach Aldrin Castaneda as he applies the finishing touches on his preparations.
“Right now, we’re in Antibes, and before we came here, we had a competition in the Asian Games. So that one also is part of my preparation to go here at the World Championships. So now we’re almost complete in our training camps, and we’re ready to go to the World Championships,” Yulo said.
“I’m gonna do a six apparatus, and hopefully we get the titles.”
Despite completing his Asiad medal collection, the two-time Olympic gold medalist remains eager to prove himself against the world’s best.
“For me, I always look at my performance. Of course, I know that I want to win a medal,” Yulo said.
“But at the same time, I always focus on my performance and preparation for the competition — preparation, good performance and good results. So, even if I don’t win a medal, I look at my consistency in preparing for the competition.”
Yulo has already shown his ability to contend for the all-around crown, winning the title in the 2024 Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Tashkent.
While floor exercise and vault remain his strongest events, Yulo said there is still room for improvement as he continues to take on new challenges.
“There’s always more to improve on, more challenges to take on, and more to learn,” he said.
