Far Eastern University (FEU)-DN Steel did not waste time in disposing of AEP-Cabstars in a 25-23, 25-17, 25-17, demolition for a winning debut in the Spikers’ Turf Season 10 Invitational Conference on Saturday at the Playtime FilOil Centre in San Juan.
The Tamaraws vented their ire on the hapless Cabstars after coming off a deflating defeat to National University in the V-League Collegiate Challenge finals.
FEU quickly shook off the disappointment by surviving a tight first set against before pulling away convincingly in the next two frames.
“It’s an ideal moment for us to rise coming from our lowest. This is a new tournament, a mission for us to focus on,” FEU head coach Eddieson Orcullo said.
“So, we always tell them to move on and forget the past. We have to focus on the present,” he added.
Dryx Saavedra, whose crucial net touch in Game 3 against the Bulldogs proved costly to the Tamaraws’ title bid, bounced back in style with 14 points on 10 attacks and four kill blocks to lead FEU in the 64-minute victory.
Charles Absin and Doula Ndongala chipped in with eight points apiece, while Lirick Mendoza and Kyle Tandoc added six points each for the Tamaraws.
Rhodson Du-ot tallied 14 excellent sets to help the Tamaraws convert 41 kills.
