The approved fare hike took effect as transport group Manibela began a three-day transport strike Monday, 28 September, to protest rising oil prices.
Transportation Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) and motorcycle taxi riders will lead a caravan from UP Avenue to Petron Philcoa at 6 a.m.
Manibela cited reports that some port truckers, customs brokers and importers may join the strike.
Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said public utility vehicle drivers may collect the approved fare increase even without physical copies of the fare matrix inside their vehicles.
“They can already [collect the fare increase] because our instruction is for our transport workers to implement it immediately,” Acting LTFRB chairman Greg Pua Jr. said Sunday.
Pua said drivers may download and print the fare matrix from the LTFRB website for posting inside their vehicles. The LTFRB also warned operators against disrupting services in violation of their franchise terms.
“It is stipulated in their franchise that their service must not be interrupted. We issue them a show-cause order, and the minimum fine for that is P5,000 for the first offense,” Pua said in a DZBB interview.

Manibela will hold its strike from 28 to 30 September, while the Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator Nationwide will stage a two-day protest at strike centers and Mendiola Street on 29 and 30 September.
