Thousands of Calumpit residents, one of Bulacan’s most flood-prone towns, took to the streets for the first time Sunday afternoon to express outrage over worsening flooding in their communities.

The group, dubbed “Tindig Kalumpitenyos,” staged a two-kilometer protest march to air their grievances over floodwaters that, residents said, have failed to recede even during periods without rain.

Zul Kifli Magat, convener and spokesperson of Tindig Kalumpitenyos, said those responsible for the worsening situation must be held accountable.

Twenty-nine barangays in Calumpit have been severely affected by flooding, with water reportedly reaching chest-deep in some areas. Residents said floodwaters have persisted even without rain, making it increasingly difficult for families to live normally in their communities.

In a statement, Tindig Kalumpitenyos called for a full accounting of flood-control funds allocated to the district.
