NAGA CITY — Dengue cases in Albay province have surpassed 2,000 this year, marking an 84 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025, according to data released by the Albay Provincial Information Office.

A report from the Provincial Incident Management Team showed that 2,179 dengue cases and 14 deaths were recorded in the province from January through 12 September.

That total is up significantly from the 1,183 cumulative cases reported during the same timeframe last year.

Earlier this month, provincial officials placed Albay under a state of calamity to address the surge.

Legazpi, the provincial capital, has reported the highest concentration of infections with 486 cases. Other heavily affected areas include Bacacay with 296 cases, Daraga with 220, Tabaco with 181 and Malilipot with 171.

The provincial information office noted additional daily increases, recording 187 new cases on Wednesday and 91 new cases on Thursday.

These recent numbers will be added to the incident management team’s next cumulative tally.

In response to the outbreak, inperson classes from elementary to college levels in both public and private schools remained suspended Friday, 18 September. The suspension allowed local authorities to conduct provincewide cleanups and fogging operations designed to eradicate mosquito breeding grounds.

Governor Noel Rosal urged residents to participate in a daily 4 p.m. cleanup routine to inspect their surroundings and clear any stagnant water that could harbor mosquitoes carrying the virus.
