Pangasinan police arrest 21 in separate illegal gambling operations

  • Police arrested 21 individuals in separate anti-illegal gambling operations targeting tong-its and pusoy games in Dagupan City, Binmaley, Malasiqui and Urdaneta City on 6 September 2026.

    In Dagupan City, six men were arrested by personnel of Police Station 1 at around 2:40 p.m. after they were allegedly caught playing tong-its with money bets.

    The suspects, all residents of Dagupan City, were identified as a 54-year-old married tricycle driver, a 66-year-old married man, a 42-year-old single salesman, a 59-year-old married unemployed man, a 70-year-old married senior citizen, and a 50-year-old married unemployed man.

    Police confiscated three decks of playing cards, two tables with tablecloths, six monoblock chairs and ₱2,125 in bet money in various denominations.

    The suspects were brought to Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City for medical examination, while the confiscated items were secured at Police Station 1 for proper disposition and further investigation.

    At around 3:30 p.m. in Binmaley, personnel of the Binmaley Municipal Police Station arrested three individuals following a reported illegal gambling activity.

    The arrested persons were a 47-year-old fisherwoman, a 47-year-old caretaker and a 44-year-old married caretaker, all residents of Binmaley.

    Police confiscated a deck of playing cards, a table, three monoblock chairs and ₱790 in bet money. The suspects and evidence were brought to the Binmaley MPS for proper disposition.

    In Malasiqui, a 48-year-old married unemployed man was arrested by personnel of the Malasiqui MPS at around 4:35 p.m. during an anti-illegal gambling operation.

    Police said the suspect was arrested while two other alleged cohorts managed to escape after sensing the presence of the operating team.

    Recovered from the suspect were a set of playing cards and ₱480 in betting money. He and the confiscated evidence were brought to the Malasiqui MPS for documentation and proper disposition.

    Meanwhile, six more individuals were arrested in two separate operations in Urdaneta City.

    At around 4:30 p.m., Urdaneta City police arrested three individuals who were reportedly caught playing tong-its. They were a 31-year-old single helper and resident of San Mateo, Isabela; a 41-year-old helper from Urdaneta City; and a 55-year-old housewife from Urdaneta City.

    Police confiscated three monoblock chairs, a monoblock table, a deck of cards and ₱1,324 in bet money.

    At around 5 p.m., another three individuals were arrested in Urdaneta City for the same offense. The suspects were a 44-year-old married driver/helper from Bayambang, Pangasinan; a 71-year-old married vendor from Urdaneta City; and a 67-year-old widowed helper from Urdaneta City.

    The operation yielded three monoblock chairs, a monoblock table, a deck of cards, a tablecloth and ₱1,050 in bet money.

    The six Urdaneta suspects and the confiscated evidence were brought to the Urdaneta City Police Station for proper disposition.

    Later that night, at around 10 p.m. in Dagupan City, five more individuals were arrested by personnel of Police Station 5 for allegedly playing pusoy with money bets.

    The suspects were four employed men aged 38, 48, 29 and 37, and a 37-year-old unemployed man. All were residents of Dagupan City.

    Police recovered ₱1,101 in cash, a set of playing cards, a square table and four monoblock chairs.

    The suspects were informed of the nature of their arrest and brought to Police Station 5 for documentation and investigation before undergoing medical examination at the Region 1 Medical Center Annex in Bonuan, Dagupan City.

    All the operations were conducted under Presidential Decree No. 1602, which penalizes illegal gambling activities, including unauthorized card games involving wagers.

    Authorities said the confiscated evidence was documented, inventoried, marked and secured for proper disposition.
