14 arrested in separate illegal gambling operations in Ilocos Sur

  • Fourteen persons were arrested in separate anti-illegal gambling operations targeting tong-its, mahjong and bet-game activities in Ilocos Sur on Sunday, 6 September 2026.

    In Candon City, 10 women were arrested during an operation conducted by personnel of the Candon City Police Station that started at about 2:30 p.m.

    Six of the suspects were allegedly engaged in tong-its at two groups on one table, while four others were allegedly playing mahjong at another table. The suspects, aged 51 to 66, were all residents of Candon City.

    Police confiscated two sets of playing cards, 124 mahjong tiles, four round plastic gambling markers or pechas, two dice and P4,965 in bet money in various denominations.

    The suspects and the confiscated evidence were brought to the Candon CPS for proper disposition.

    Meanwhile, in Narvacan, four women were arrested in a separate anti-illegal gambling operation conducted by personnel of the Narvacan Municipal Police Station.

    The operation started at about 3:50 p.m. and targeted an alleged bet-game activity. The suspects, aged 25, 29, 41 and 56, were all residents of Narvacan.

    Authorities confiscated one set of playing cards, P883 in bet money in various denominations, a wooden table and four monoblock chairs.

    The four suspects and the confiscated items were brought to the Narvacan MPS for proper disposition.

    The 14 suspects are set to face charges for alleged violation of Presidential Decree 1602, which penalizes illegal gambling activities.
