Americans end long wait, bag Solheim Cup crown

A host of sporting and entertainment personalities will descend on Bernardus Golf on Thursday, 10 September, for the Solheim Cup All-Star Challenge, a fun-filled showcase ahead of the 2026 Solheim Cup.

The event, which starts at 2 p.m., will give fans an early taste of the excitement, competitive spirit and camaraderie that surround one of women’s golf’s biggest events.

BBC Sport broadcaster Andrew Cotter will host an entertaining Q&A on the first tee, featuring Dutch darts star Gian van Veen, European golf legend Suzann Pettersen and Dutch golfer Anne van Dam.

The trio will discuss what it takes to perform at the highest level, including dealing with pressure, nerves and the demands of competing before large crowds.

The action will then move onto the course, with Van Veen and Pettersen joining a star-studded cast for tee shots in front of spectators before tackling a three-hole challenge over Bernardus Golf’s first, sixth and 18th holes. The winners will be crowned on the 18th.

The line-up features personalities from darts, golf, football, cricket, rugby and music.

Van Veen, known as “The Giant,” will bring his precision and competitive edge to the event. The Dutchman is ranked No. 3 in the Professional Darts Corporation world rankings.

He will be joined by former England goalkeeper Carly Telford, who won 28 international caps, as well as former England cricket captain Heather Knight OBE and ex-England rugby international Anthony Watson.

Knight led England to World Cup glory in 2017 and became the first player to score an international century in all three formats. Watson earned 56 England caps, was a two-time British & Irish Lion and played in two Rugby World Cups.

Pettersen will add a special Solheim Cup perspective to the challenge. The Norwegian is a two-time major champion and nine-time Solheim Cup player who famously holed the winning putt for Europe in 2019 before retiring from competitive golf.

Rounding out the field is British DJ and broadcaster DJ Spoony, a founding member of the Dreem Teem and a longtime BBC personality.

With elite athletes from different sporting backgrounds coming together for a three-hole test, the All-Star Challenge promises to provide an entertaining curtain-raiser to the 2026 Solheim Cup while giving fans a glimpse of the passion, pressure and competitive spirit that make the event unique.
