Rain or Shine scores 3rd straight win behind Nocum

Mark Escarlote·1 August 2026

    • Adrian Nocum
    • Gilas Pilipinas Asian Games 2026
    • Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games

Daredevil guard Adrian Nocum is bringing the same energy and excitement he’s been showing for Rain or Shine to the 20th Asian Games starting next week in Aichi-Nagoya.

Nocum is stoked to finally get a shot at representing the country as he joined the all-Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) stars-composed Gilas in its back-to-back gold medal bid in the quadrennial continental sports meet starting next week.

“I’m really excited to showcase what this team can bring. I’m excited to compete. Kumbaga, banat lang. But also enjoy the experience as well,” the 27-year-old Nocum said.

Nocum is expected to anchor Gilas’ high-octane running game as much as he does for the Elasto Painters, given that the team of head coach Tim Cone is utilizing speed and quickness to compensate for its lack of height.

The Mapua University product is making his debut in the Asiad basketball set to run from 10 to 20 September.

“As (assistant) coach Richard (Del Rosario) was saying, we are here because of our strengths, which they believe will help the team,” Nocum said.

“So, I’ll just play my game and work with the system of our coaches. Whatever I could do to help and contribute, I’ll give it for the team,” he added.

Nocum is the second-leading scorer for Rain or Shine in the on-break PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup with 17.6 points average per game behind import Aaron Fuller (28.3 points per outing).

The heady guard’s playmaking will also be valuable for Gilas is he could translate his PBA norm of 7.17 assists per game.

Although Nocum knows the high expectations of defending the Asiad crown, he’s not letting pressure get into his head.

“I’m not thinking much about it. We have a lot of veterans and experienced players here. I’m just ready whenever my number is called,” he said.
