Nxled came into the second of its back-to-back assignments with greater energy and better resolve.

Fueled by the frustrations it had in a stinging setback the day before, the Chameleons bounced back mightily in a quick work of no less than defending champion PLDT, 25-19, 25-22, 25-20, in the 2026-2027 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational Conference on Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Seasoned stars MJ Phillips and Myla Pablo connived with young gunner Lyann de Guzman in Nxled’s quick bounce-back from a four-set loss to the Jaja Santiago-Minowa-bannered Creamline at the start of the season-opening competition.

“I think after yesterday’s game, we put in a lot of work and we just wanted to showcase everyone, how much work we’ve put in these last couple of weeks. Thankfully, it showed it out here today,” Phillips said.

The former Finals Most Valuable Player was on point on offense with 13 points, she collected from eight kills, a kill block and four aces, including three in the Chameleons’ decisive 8-0 run in the third set.

PLDT looked poised to fight back after yielding the first two frames as the High Speed Hitters, behind Savi Davison, took a 16-14 advantage.

But the Chameleons fired back with an avalanche of points.

Phillips landed an ace for an 18-16 Nxled lead. De Guzman hit back-to-back kills before Phillips scored consecutive aces to give the Chameleons a comfortable 22-16 separation.

PLDT tried to salvage the match, closing the gap to 19-23, before Jovelyn Fernandez pushed Nxled at match point with a kill.

De Guzman’s serve went long in the next play but the High Speed Hitters shot themselves in the foot as newcomer Leila Cruz smacked the ball out to end the one-hour, 38-minute match.

“Well, today, I think that simply confirms that we are playing pretty good volleyball. Yesterday, I should say that we played another pretty good match. And today, we’re confirming our pretty moment of volleyball playing. We’re getting better,” Nxled head coach Ettore Guidetti said.

The Chameleons limited their errors to 12 compared to 21 miscues by the High Speed Hitters.

“Today, definitely, the block and defense have worked better compared to yesterday. We served really, really much better. And this is a connection that helps a lot if you want to win against a very good team,” the Italian mentor added.

Pablo had 12 points, including three kill blocks, and had nine digs, De Guzman scored all 10 of her points on attacks and contributed nine digs for Nxled.

PLDT suffered its first loss after beating guest team Est Cola of Thailand in four sets last Monday.

It was also the High Speed Hitters’ first defeat in the conference after a perfect championship run last year.

Davison was the lone PLDT player in double figures with 20 points coming from 19 kills and a kill block. She also had 16 excellent receptions.

Mika Reyes had eight markers while Jovelyn Prado and Kiesha Bedonia scored five each.

Kim Kianna Dy and Majoy Baron struggled in form as they were held down to four and five points, respectively, for The High Speed Hitters.
