Phl’s WC baseball debut delayed

The Philippines will have to wait a little longer before making its historic debut on the world stage after inclement weather forced the postponement of its opening assignment in the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup in Tainan, Chinese Taipei.
The Tainan City Government suspended classes and work due to the threat of flooding, prompting the postponement of games scheduled at the ASPAC Secondary Stadium.
The Philippine women’s baseball team was supposed to face powerhouse Japan but will now await further announcements.
The Nationals are making their first-ever appearance in the prestigious World Cup.
Aside from Japan, the Philippines is bracketed with Cuba, Venezuela, Great Britain and host Chinese Taipei.
The top three teams from the group will earn berths in the 2027 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals in Rockford, Illinois.
Japan enters the competition as the tournament’s most successful nation with seven World Cup titles, while the United States is a distant second with two under its belt.
For the Filipinos, however, the delay only extends the wait for a long-awaited opportunity to prove that they belong on the sport’s biggest international stage.
