Wanted ex-rebel nabbed

Combined Army and police units arrested a wanted former member of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) and alleged lie-low leader of the dismantled Kilusang Larangang Gerilya (KLG) North Abra during a joint law enforcement operation in Barangay Parista, Lupao, Nueva Ecija, on August 21, 2026.
The operation, conducted by elements of the 501st Infantry Brigade, 703rd Infantry Brigade and 48th Infantry Battalion, together with the Philippine National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group–Cordillera Administrative Region (CIDG-CAR), resulted in the arrest of John Lee N. Hondrado, alias “LEG-ON,” through the service of outstanding arrest warrants.
Hondrado, a former CTG member, is facing charges for attempted homicide and the unlawful manufacture, sale, acquisition, disposition or possession of firearms.
Army Chief Lt. Gen. Donald Gumiran lauded the participating units for supporting law enforcement in the lawful implementation of judicial processes while upholding professionalism, due process, human rights and the rule of law.
Gumiran said the Philippine Army will continue to pursue remaining CTG members through intensified operations in coordination with partner law enforcement agencies.
The Army also urged remaining CTG members to peacefully surrender, abandon the armed struggle and reunite with their families, saying this would contribute to lasting peace and development.
