The camp of former 1-PACMAN Partylist Rep. and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Reservist Brig. Gen. Michael “Mikee” Romero vowed to fully cooperate with the Philippine Air Force (PAF) investigation regarding the awarding of valor medals.
Romero has formally relinquished his duties as Wing Commander of the Tactical Operations Wing Reserve Northern Luzon and retired from the AFP Reserve Force, effective 19 August.
In his letter of relinquishment of duties and retirement addressed to AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, Romero thanked the AFP leadership and the men and women of the Armed Forces of the Philippines with whom he had the privilege of serving.
“It has been a profound privilege and honor to serve our country alongside the dedicated men and women of the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” Romero said, thanking the AFP for the trust, friendship, camaraderie, and opportunities afforded to him during his service.
Romero’s involvement in national defense has spanned both legislative work and service in the AFP Reserve Force.
During his time in Congress, Romero was among those who pushed for measures that improved the salaries and benefits of military and other uniformed personnel in 2018. These measures contributed to a 58.7 percent average increase in basic pay implemented that year.
He also supported the allocation of approximately P22 billion in the national budget to acquire three C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft for the Philippine Air Force, strengthening the country’s strategic airlift, humanitarian assistance, and disaster-response capabilities.
