  • Five Filipino crew members from the Liberian-flagged oil tanker M/V Europe I returned to Manila on Monday after being repatriated ahead of their vessel’s entry into high-risk areas in the Northern Black Sea.

The seafarers arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 aboard Emirates Flight EK334. Government officials said the repatriation was arranged to ensure the crew’s safety before the vessel entered designated warlike zones

Representatives from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and the Manila International Airport Authority medical team received the returning workers at the airport.

The arriving crew members underwent health assessments by airport medical staff and received financial and airport assistance from migrant worker agencies.

Also, representatives from the local manning agency, Intercrew Philippines Agency Inc., were also present to assist the crew.

DMW officials directed the manning agency to provide physical and psychological evaluations, debriefing sessions, and all standard repatriation benefits and compensation due to the crew members.

The DMW reminded manning agencies and foreign shipowners to monitor Filipino seafarers closely and strictly follow safety protocols for vessels operating in or near the Black Sea.
