The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has extended tax deadlines falling between 10 and 16 August to Monday, 17 August, for taxpayers in areas affected by heavy southwest monsoon rains.
The relief measure, issued through Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 89-2026, covers 58 BIR offices and units, including 53 regular Revenue District Offices and five Large Taxpayer Audit and Excise Divisions.
The extension applies to specified tax filings, payments, remittances, registrations, and required submissions across electronic and manual payment channels.
BIR commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza said the decision aims to prioritize safety while ensuring compliance.
“We recognize the difficulties brought about by the prevailing weather conditions,” Mendoza said.
“We are giving our affected taxpayers additional time so they can prioritize their safety this week and comply with their tax obligations without having to worry about penalties,” he added.
Under Bank Bulletin No. 2026-09, authorized agent banks will accept applicable tax returns and payments from taxpayers under the designated offices until 17 August without penalty.
The extension aligns with Executive Branch directives following heavy rainfall across Luzon.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s office issued Memorandum Circular No. 123 on 9 August, recommending work-from-home arrangements for government personnel in Metro Manila and 15 provinces.
The tax bureau advised taxpayers to consult the circular for the full list of covered revenue offices and specific tax deadlines.
