A 63-year-old woman was killed and her 26-year-old daughter was wounded when a gunman opened fire on them Monday evening in Barangay Poblacion, Makati, prompting police to establish a special investigation team to track down the suspect.
The shooting occurred around 6:46 p.m. at the intersection of Makati Avenue and Durban Street, the Southern Police District (SPD) said in a statement Tuesday.
Both victims were rushed to Makati Medical Center following the attack. The older woman was declared dead on arrival, while her daughter remains hospitalized with gunshot wounds.
An initial investigation revealed that the victims were shot by a lone male suspect wearing a white shirt, denim shorts, and white shoes. The assailant fled on foot immediately after the shooting.
Responding officers from the Makati City Police Station secured the crime scene and launched dragnet operations alongside neighboring police units.
Investigators are reviewing closed-circuit television footage to trace the suspect’s movements before and after the attack.
To expedite the case, the SPD organized a Special Investigation Team (SIT) tasked exclusively with gathering evidence, coordinating intelligence, building the case, and conducting manhunt operations.
“The SIT is working closely with all concerned units to maximize investigative efforts and expedite the identification and arrest of the suspect,” the district said.
