A husband-and-wife circus team figured in a death-defying stunt at the Orange County Fair in the town of Wallkill, New York on 24 July.

Ana Daza Tavera, 42, was to hit with an arrow a foam target that Cuervo Rangel, 38, was holding up. When she fired the crossbow, however, the arrow missed the target and hit Rangel instead, Fox News reports.

Fortunately, Rangel, who was rushed to the Westchester Medical Center, was not seriously hurt.

“The good news is she caught him right at the very corner of the neck. There was no blood, nothing,” Circus Murcia ringmaster Benjamin Jackson told News 12, according to Fox News.

Meanwhile, a 32-year-old emergency room nurse was climbing Granite Peak, the tallest mountain in the US state of Montana, with friends on 20 July when he suddenly slipped.

After getting up, David Cifaldi noticed that one of his trekking poles had cleanly pierced his side after he landed on it.

After assessing his condition, Cifaldi decided to leave the pole lodged in his body and walk down from 11,800 feet to get help. He and his pals hiked more than 10 miles over rugged terrain, boulders, and snowfields to reach the trailhead in six-and-a-half hours, New York Post (NYP) reports.

From the trailhead, Cifaldi was taken to a hospital before being transferred to Intermountain Health in Billings, Montana, where the trekking pole was finally removed, according to NYP.

Cifaldi is now trying to raise $10,000 to pay his medical bills, including a future surgery.
