  • Rockwell’s fancier tenants like to talk about “footfall.” Lately, at one particular French boutique on the mall’s high-rent row, the only thing getting foot traffic is the cleaning crew.

Sources close to the leasing office tell Nosy Tarsee that a certain Parisian ready-to-wear label, the kind that built its name on unfussy cotton shirts and a logo so minimalist it barely counts as branding, has quietly become the emptiest store in the wing.

Sales staff, we’re told, spend entire afternoons refolding the same stack of chinos. Regional numbers, whispered by someone who should know, are described as “an embarrassment nobody wants to put in a deck.”

The theory making the rounds among Rockwell’s shopping set is that shoppers can’t get past the three letters stitched over the left breast of every shirt on the rack.

You know the ones. Small, unbothered, practically an afterthought in the original design — the kind of logo that used to signal you were rich enough not to need a bigger one.

But initials are funny things in this country. Say them out loud in a mall in Makati, and half the people within earshot will think not of a Left Bank atelier, but of a certain political formation that has spent the better part of a year being dragged through Senate hearings and at least two separate corruption probes that Nosy Tarsee has covered rather extensively in these very pages.

“Nobody wants to walk around wearing three letters that remind people of flood control money,” one Rockwell regular reportedly told a friend, loudly, in the fitting room.

A boutique staffer, when asked directly, laughed nervously and said only that “the older clients still buy, but the younger ones make jokes and leave.”

Whether it’s true brand contagion or just bad luck and a strong peso are, of course, above Nosy Tarsee’s pay grade to determine.

Marketing professors will tell you logo aversion is a real, documented phenomenon — nobody wants to be a walking billboard for something toxic, even by accident, with APC emblazoned on their shirt.
